Birmingham City and West Brom look set to miss out on one of their reported transfer targets.

Birmingham City are said to have launched an 'ambitious' effort to sign Sheffield Wednesday attacker Josh Windass, according to a report.

Our friends at The Star have said Blues hold an interest in the forward and launched an 'ambitious effort' in the last few weeks to bring him to St Andrews. Clubs in the MLS are also interested as well as West Brom in the Championship.

Birmingham along with the Baggies are facing disappointment, however, as the Owls are 'closer than ever' to signing Windass to a new deal. Windass is one of five players out of contract at Hillsborough this summer and has held talks about extending his stay in South Yorkshire. His representatives are expected to finalise talks this week but some details are still to be agreed.

The 30-year-old netted seven goals in 28 games across all competitions for Wednesday this season as he helped Wednesday stay up at the expense of Birmingham. He played a key role in their survival scoring in the final three games of the season.

Josh - son of Hull City legend Dean - would have been a good signing to help spearhead Birmingham's assault on League One next term. He notched up 11 goals and seven assists when Wednesday won promotion via the League One play-offs in 2022/23.
