Nottingham Forest owner Evangelos Marinakis is eager to sign a Wolverhampton Wanderers player.

Wolves winger Daniel Podence is the subject of serious transfer interest this summer, with a move away from Molineux growing increasingly likely.

Olympiacos, owned by Forest chairman Marinakis, are reportedly determined to land Podence on a permanent transfer following a successful season-long loan spell. The 28-year-old scored 15 goals and made 13 assists in 47 games across all competitions last term.

Greek outlet Sport24 reports Olympiacos are working hard to ensure Podence remains at the club for the long-term. Despite interest and official proposals from Saudi Arabia, the 28-year-old’s heart is said to be with the Olympiacos, delighting Marinakis and all involved.

Podence is loved in Piraeus as he spent 18 months at Olympiacos between July 2018 and January 2020, before making his £16.9 million move to Wolves. He also played a key role as the Greek giants beat the likes of Aston Villa and Fiorentina to claim a famous UEFA Europa Conference League title.

Daniel Podence to Olympiacos makes sense

The same love isn’t felt in Wolverhampton, though, as Gary O’Neil fell out with Podence very quickly. The Wanderers boss figured out the winger didn’t share the same ambitions and in turn isolated him from the first team. Both the player and club aren’t planning on reconvening, so a transfer makes sense for all parties.

It’s been claimed that Wolves would seek only around £6 million to let Podence leave, despite the attacker having a year plus the option of a further 12 months left on his current contract. Olympiacos are expected to make an offer in due course.
