An offer is officially on the table for Wolverhampton Wanderers target Che Adams following talks with Southampton.

The striker, formerly a prolific goalscorer for Wolves’ local rivals Birmingham City, has been asked to stay by current club Southampton. Adams’ current contract expires at the end of this month - allowing him to leave for free - but the Saints have offered the player improved terms, as per their released and retained list.

Wanderers, in desperate need for a new striker at low expense, have been heavily linked with a move for Adams. The Athletic reported a fortnight ago that Wolves were in advanced talks with the attacker and his representatives over a transfer to Molineux.

Southampton’s offer doesn’t mean Adams has rejected Wolves, it’s merely an attempt to trump the Old Gold’s terms. Adams was all on track to make the switch, so the Saints need to do a good job of convincing their star attacker to stay put.

Another club in the mix for Che Adams

Everton could yet spoil the party as the Toffees have also shown a strong interest in Adams over recent months. Sean Dyche’s side tried to sign the 27-year-old last summer - much like Wolves did - and they are expected to rear their heads once again.

One factor which could inhibit the Merseyside outfit, however, is the fact Beto and Dominic Calvert-Lewin are already on the books. Adams would face far less competition at either Southampton or Wolves, meaning there would likely be more consistent game time promised.
