Wolves have beaten Aston Villa and an array of Italian teams to a marquee signing.

Wolverhampton Wanderers are preparing an announcement for the signing of Celta Vigo star Jørgen Strand Larsen after the striker passed his medical tests.

The Norway international has caught the eye of an array of Italian Serie A clubs - including European outfits Bologna and AS Roma - but Wolves are set to complete his acquisition. Strand Larsen scored 13 goals and made three assists in 37 La Liga appearances for Celta last season.

It was reported on Friday by Fabrizio Romano that Wanderers had agreed a package of €30 million (£25.3 million) to sign the attacker. Those figures remain accurate and Strand Larsen can be considered a Wolves player, barring official public confirmation from both clubs.

The 24-year-old is predominantly a centre forward but can also play off the left or right as a wide attacker. Formerly of FC Groningen, Sarpsborg 08 and AC Milan, Strand Larsen has contributed a total of 54 goals and 27 assists in 205 senior appearances in three countries.

Strand Larsen also has experience of playing in a continental competition as he has featured in the UEFA Europa League four times so far in his career. Gary O’Neil and everyone associated with Wolves will be hoping the new striker can help the Old Gold reach similar prestigious heights.

Wolves to announce third and fourth signings

The acquisition of Strand Larsen isn’t the only deal imminent as Wolves are expected to officially confirm the signing of Sport Recife star Pedro Lima. The Brazilian right-back has already completed his medical and signed his contract ahead of an £8 million transfer.

Tommy Doyle was the first to join Wolves this summer as the midfielder’s loan from Manchester City was turned permanent for merely £5 million. The second was Portuguese wonderkid Rodrigo Gomes from Braga, for a fee of around £12.7 million.
