Defender was on radar

West Brom have looked into a deal for defender Jordan Williams following the end of his contract at Barnsley along with Cardiff City, according to a report by Football Insider. However, they will have to look for other full-back targets as he has now joined Portsmouth.

Pompey boss John Mousinho has said: “Jordan has plenty of experience already, despite his relatively young age, with a lot of games under his belt.

“A lot of those have been in the Championship and he’s captained Barnsley as well, so has those important leadership qualities.

“We’re getting a right-back who’s defensively solid, while also possessing some exciting attacking attributes.

“There’s so much potential there and we’re delighted to be able to bring Jordan to Fratton Park as our first signing of the summer.”

Attacker update

The Star claimed in May that the Baggies were tracking Sheffield Wednesday attacker Josh Windass along with Hull City, Derby County and Stoke City. He sees his deal at Hillsborough expire in a matter of weeks and is due to become available as things stand.

In this latest update regarding his future by Football Insider, he has ‘rejected’ an extension offer from the Owls, with Coventry City mentioned as another potential suitor.

The door has now swung open for other teams to swoop in for him. The Hull-born man moved to South Yorkshire in 2020 having previously had spells at Accrington Stanley, Rangers and Wigan Athletic and he will now be weighing up his options.

Windass scored the winner for Sheffield Wednesday in their League One play-off final win over Barnsley at Wembley last year.

Manager latest

Leicester City could turn their attention to West Brom boss Corberan if they fail to tempt Graham Potter with a move, according to the Daily Mail. They are searching for a replacement for Enzo Maresca after he left for Chelsea.

The Spaniard has gone a great job since moving to the Hawthorns and the Midlands outfit will be praying that Potter takes the top job at the King Power Stadium.

At the end of last term, Corberan said: “We know there is a lot that we need do during this summer. "In terms of the number of players that are going to be out of contract and for the things that we need to grow and the things that we need to create.

"It will be now according to the financial possibilities and financial restrictions that every team has. Sometimes the future of the clubs depend about the past of the clubs too but from tomorrow we will start to work on this.”
