An update has emerged amid Burnley’s interest in West Bromwich Albion manager Carlos Corberan.

Burnley are still searching for a new head coach following the departure of Vincent Kompany to Bayern Munich and Corberan, despite being happy at West Brom, cannot be ruled out.

The Clarets have been in advanced talks with ex-Netherlands international striker Ruud van Nistelrooy, who has been unemployed since leaving the managerial post at PSV Eindhoven at the end of the 2022/23 season. An update on that front could squander Burnley’s chances, however, meaning other targets may have to be considered instead.

Respected transfer news journalist Fabrizio Romano reports van Nistelrooy has been approached by his former club, Manchester United, to join Erik ten Hag’s new-look coaching staff. The decision is in the 47-year-old’s hands as an offer is said to already be on the table from Burnley.

West Brom will be hoping van Nistelrooy decides to take the job at Turf Moor rather than Old Trafford. As reported by Belgian journalist Sacha Tavolieri last week, Corberan is among three candidates for the Burnley job, with van Nistelrooy and an unnamed contender the other two.

West Brom or Burnley dilemma could soon arise for Corberan

If van Nistelrooy rejects the Clarets post and the Belgian reports are to be believed, Corberan will be under serious consideration to succeed Kompany. Albion remain hopeful the Spaniard will stay at The Hawthorns but Burnley would offer a clear upward step.

Having been recently relegated from the Premier League, the Lancashire outfit would likely push for automatic promotion straight away. West Brom, meanwhile, are set to target play-off football once again but transfer funds are severely limited to make that objective a reality.
