West Brom have confirmed an agreement with an experienced defender following the weekend’s contractual deadline.

West Bromwich Albion centre-back Kyle Bartley has committed his immediate future to the Baggies, signing a one-year contract to keep him at The Hawthorns until at least June 2025.

The former Swansea City, Sheffield United and Leeds United man has reached an agreement to include a clause in his new deal, with his stay to be extended by a further 12 months if he reaches a certain amount of appearances. Bartley was set to leave West Brom on Sunday but talks progressed well to continue his stay.

Responding to putting pen to paper, Bartley told West Brom’s website: “I’ve been at the Albion for six years and I really enjoy being here. We had a really good season last year and I really believe we can build on that under the manager this term.

“The gaffer has trusted me to play the majority of matches since he joined the club and that’s something I’m really grateful for. I’m determined to keep performing at my highest possible level and I’m confident I can do that in the coming campaign.

“I’ve really enjoyed playing alongside some of the other defenders we’ve had here during my time at the club. I’ve seen so many of them flourish and I’d like to play a part in seeing that happen once again with some of the younger lads we’ve got in the squad at the moment.”

Bartley arrived at The Hawthorns in the summer of 2018, playing a leading role in Albion’s 2019/20 automatic promotion charge and has continued to shine for the Baggies under the stewardship of Carlos Corberán.

It’s hoped the 33-year-old can carry on his fine work at the heart of defence as West Brom aim to finish in the Championship play-off positions once again.
