Championship clubs have received their 2024/25 fixtures - but when will decisions on television games be made?

West Brom will begin their 2024/25 Championship season away at Loftus Road on Saturday, August 10 which will kick off at 12.30 pm.

The reason for the early kick off is that all the games across the EFL will be broadcast by Sky Sports. Matches will either be shown on the main channels of Sky Sports or on their new app which is called Sky Sports + and launches in August.

As part of a £935m deal spread across five years, more games than ever will be available to watch. Most will appear on Sky Sports, but there will also be Championship games shown on ITV from January 2025.

The release of fixtures is exciting, but fans are advised not to make any travel arrangements just yet. Sky Sports have confirmed their selections for the opening weekend, but further on down the line, there will be other selections, and thankfully we'll get some more information in that in the next few days.

The early kick off away against QPR might be of hindrance to some fans, but at least they are playing on a Saturday. Blackburn Rovers against Derby County and Preston North End versus Sheffield United are both taking place at 8.00 pm on Friday, August 9. Sheffield Wednesday against Plymouth Argyle is on Sunday, August 11 and then on Monday, Luton Town host fellow relegated side Burnley at 8.00 pm.

West Brom should know by next Wednesday, when their games up to the end of September will be shown on Sky Sports.

To paint a full picture of the broadcast process, a statement from the EFL reads: "Within seven days of today’s EFL Fixture Release, all matches selected for broadcast for the period to the end of September will be announced, and before a ball is kicked of the 2024/25 season.

"All TV selections will be confirmed for the period up to the FA Cup third round in early January. This is a landmark commitment, providing fans and clubs up to five months’ notice, an increase from the five weeks' notice given across the majority of the 2023/24 season.

"In line with the uplift in matches, weekends where all divisions and the Premier League are scheduled to play, 10 regular weekend games across the three divisions will be broadcast, including 7 games at 12.30pm on a Saturday. This will include up to five Sky Bet Championship matches and up to five matches across Sky Bet League One and Sky Bet League Two."
