Birmingham City are in the market for a new striker and they may have found their man.

Blues are reportedly considering an ambitious summer transfer swoop for Aberdeen forward Bojan Miovski, who is being lined up by a Champions League club.

The North Macedonia international impressed during the season just gone, scoring 26 goals and making four assists in 53 appearances in all competitions. Miovski tormented Scotland’s top teams as he netted two in three games against Celtic and notched a further two in three meetings with Rangers.

The 24-year-old passed the test on the continental stage, too, as he contributed two goals and one assists in five UEFA Europa Conference League fixtures, against the likes of HJK Helsinki and PAOK Salonika. Miovski was key to Aberdeen reaching the group stage of the competition as he scored two and assisted one in the two qualifying round matches against Swedish outfit BK Häcken.

Aberdeen’s prized striking asset has gained the attention of a host of clubs and bids are expected to be lodged following the start of the summer transfer window. Journalist Alan Nixon reports via his Patreon page that Birmingham, long-term admirers of Miovski, have expressed an interest.

It’s claimed Blues will face hot competition for the attacker’s signature, however, as Italian Serie A side Bologna are expected to make a move. Following qualification for next season’s Champions League via a fifth-placed finish, the Emilia-Romagna based team are considering a £7 million bid.

Blues to face Miovski difficulties

Birmingham will struggle to offer anything close to what Bologna are preparing, even with the impressive investment from the club’s new American owners. Wonderkid midfielder Jordan James is expected to be moved on for a significant fee but those funds are likely to be spread around the squad, not just splashed in one position.

It’s worth saying that there could be an opening if Bologna, who are considering other options, drop their interest. Miovski is yet to challenge himself in English football as he began his career in North Macedonia and Hungary. It awaits to be seen what the player’s preferred destination would be, but League One football isn’t likely to offer much career progression.
