A managerial sacking has been made during EURO 2024, but it’s from one of the teams that haven’t qualified.

Birmingham City midfielder Jordan James now has two managers that he will have to impress this year after Wales sacked Rob Page.

The former Watford, Sheffield United and Coventry City defender has been relieved of his duties. He had two years remaining on his contract but after Wales failed to qualify for EURO 2024, the pressure mounted.

Noel Mooney, FAW Chief Executive Officer said, “On behalf of myself and the entire FAW, I extend our heartfelt gratitude to Rob for his commitment and dedication to his roles for the National Teams.”

“Under Rob Page’s leadership, our Cymru men’s team has achieved significant milestones and victories which have created many incredible memories for our nation, most notably our first World Cup in sixty-four years.”

“We remain focused on our FAW value of ‘Excellence’ and look forward to the opportunities for our national teams and Welsh Football.”

Earlier this month, Wales drew 0-0 with Gibraltar, ranked 203rd in the world and then lost 4-0 to Slovakia. Blues midfielder James was an unused substitute against Gibraltar but played the entire 90 minutes against Slovakia.

Wales will now be on the search for a new manager ahead of their UEFA Nations League campaign, which begins in September against Turkey. James, who is reportedly wanted by West Ham among a handful of other clubs will now have to prove his worth to Chris Davies and whoever lands the Wales job.
