Five teams are now chasing a player that chose to depart Birmingham City’s League One rivals.

Birmingham City face another club in the race to sign former Shrewsbury Town goalkeeper Marko Marosi.

According to Alan Nixon, an EFL journalist for The Sun, Hibs have now joined the race to sign Marosi. Blues are reportedly interested along with Huddersfield Town, Wrexham and Rotherham United.

Our friends at the Shropshire Star first reported that Marosi was wanted by Birmingham along with three of their League One rivals. Hibs are now keen to bring him up to Scotland, and could allow Jojo Wollacott to join Stevenage if they are successful in their pursuit.

Marosi was Shrewsbury's number one for the last three seasons, and appeared 136 times for the Shrews. He kept 35 clean sheets in total for the Shropshire outfit, but chose to move on and seek pastures new.

The strength of Birmingham's interest could hinge on if John Ruddy stays at the club or not. He has been offered new terms but Charlton Athletic are also said to have held talks with the one-time England international.

Birmingham made Ryan Allsop their first signing of the summer, joining on an undisclosed fee from Hull City. He has signed on a three-year deal and will be in the mix for the number one spot.

Given that a fee was paid for Allsop and that he was playing regularly in the Championship for the Tigers last season, then he would be a firm favourite. If Ruddy was to pen an extension then that would put the Marosi rumours to bed, as they would already be well equipped in the goalkeeping department.

Under-21's goalkeeper Brad Mayo recently signed a contract extension that will keep him at St Andrew's for another two years. The 19-year-old was an unused substitute on five occasions last season, and will be hopeful of some first-team opportunities this term.

Speaking to Blues TV earlier this month about his new contract, Mayo said: ""I am over the moon. I feel like it has been a really good year and I am happy to be staying.

"This is my home club and I am loving every minute of being here. It just felt right to keep the journey going."
