A prolific forward known globally for winning two European Cup titles with Nottingham Forest in 1979 and 1980, Francis racked up 626 career appearances, scoring 231 goals.

He is regarded as one of Blues’ greatest ever players. He spent nine years at St Andrew’s, playing 330 times for Blues and netting 133 times before making a groundbreaking transfer to Forest in 1979.

Family fued

According to reports, Francis left £1.9m in his will, although his estranged sons were not included in the will. His wife, Helen, passed away two years earlier from cancer.

Francis’ British estate has been left to his brother Ian and sister Carolyn. According to The Sun, in his will, Francis stated: “I wish to make it clear in this my will that I have not included my children as beneficiaries due to the fact that we have become estranged following family differences over the last several months.

“Neither of my children are financially dependent on me.”

The football icon’s two sons, James and Matthew, did gather in Marbella last year to pay tribute to their father for his funeral.
