Latest Birmingham City transfer news as one of their leading players could depart the club this summer.

Birmingham City midfielder Jordan James is still of interest to Italian side Atlanta, despite the clubs relegation, according to Fabrizio Romano.

The 19-year-old is a player that will be in demand this summer after the club rejected a series of approaches from the Serie A club. James who is still a teenager until July was nominated for the Championship Young Player of the Year award and was a shining light in an otherwise dark season for Blues.

He has attracted interest from clubs in the Premier League namely Everton, Crystal Palace, Newcastle United and Wolves as well as Atlanta. His eight goals in 42 games for a struggling Championship side saw the club put at least a £10m price tag on the player.

Birmingham face a season in English football’s third tier next season, and it has been claimed by a respected journalist that James would like to seek pastures new this summer. He is under contract until the summer of 2025 and there is an option to extend that by a further year, but this summer could likely see him depart should a club negotiate a reasonable transfer fee.

Transfer guru Romano said in a tweet on Tuesday (May 21) evening: "Atalanta keep monitoring Jordan James as potential transfer target for the summer window.

"Welsh midfielder, keen to move away and try new chapter after Birmingham City turned down approaches for James from the Italian club last year."

James’ season might not be fully over as he could be named in the Wales squad for their upcoming friendlies. The Dragons have not qualified for EURO 2024 but are playing Slovakia and Gibraltar ahead of their UEFA Nations League campaign which begins in September.

His national team boss Rob Page believes the midfielder has shown that he is capable of playing at the highest level. James featured for Wales in the winter, beating a Croatia team that featured Ballon d'Or winner Luka Modric and Manchester City star Mateo Kovacic.

The 49-year-old admitted he ‘wouldn’t be surprised’ if James left St Andrew’s, however it could hinge on whether Blues want to keep hold of him and use him to spearhead their promotion push. Page also admitted that he knew there was ‘definitely’ interest in the player.

“I think he has proven at top international level, against top midfielders in Croatia, to name one team, [that] he is more than capable of playing at that level as a [number] six,” Page said to BBC Sport Wales.

“I know there is definitely interest. I would not be surprised if he is gone. We will have to wait and see.

“It depends on Birmingham. If they think they can go straight back up next year and they want to have a go, then we will see."
