Birmingham City’s club record signing departed this summer and now a Champions League club are set to hold talks with him.

Ivan Sunjic is in talks about a return to Dinamo Zagreb after leaving Birmingham City on a free transfer this summer.

The 27-year-old departed St Andrew's this summer after his contract expired and he since then he has been free to discuss his next move with clubs. Croatian paper Germanijak say that Sunjic is on Dinamo Zagreb's wish list, but that because he is a free agent, there is also interest at other clubs.

Should Dinamo Zagreb push through with signing Sunjic, then he would have the opportunity to play in the Champions League. They won the Croatian Football League last season and are in to the play-off round where they could be up against the likes of Red Star Belgrade, Galatasaray and Young Boys.

Last summer, Sunjic came back after a season long loan at Hertha BSC, and made 40 appearances in all competitions last season, scoring one goal and creating three. He was one of 13 players that were allowed to leave after their contracts expired. Neil Etheridge, Scott Hogan, Marcel Oakley and Marc Roberts have all left, whilst Birmingham are still awaiting the outcome of their offers to John Ruddy and Lukas Jutkiewicz.

Sunjic is one of Birmingham City's most expensive signings in their history. He joined from Zagreb for a reported €7 million in July 2019. During his five years in the Midlands, he made 173 appearances for Blues with a record of seven goals and six assists. Birmingham achieved finishes of 20th, 18th and 22nd whilst he was here.
