Is this the UK's most delayed flight ever? Birmingham flight hot stop destination named in worst delays report

A recent report has revealed that the flight from Birmingham Airport to the UK's hottest travel destination is one of the most delayed routes in the UK. The Delay to Departure Report, created by business communication provider Esendex, used FlightRadar24 to analyse more than 250 flight routes from the UK over the past year to establish the routes where passengers are most likely to be delayed, arrive on time, or even ahead of schedule.

The report has revealed Birmingham Airport’s service to Dubai is the second most delayed flight route from the UK.

Emirates’ flight from Birmingham Airport to Dubai in the United Arab Emirates was found to have an average scheduled arrival time of 12.39am and an average actual arrival time of 1.09am with passengers facing an approximate delay of 30 minutes.

The demand for Dubai as a destination remains high due to its status as a cultural and leisure hub, as well as a central business hub, that continues to draw travellers from Birmingham, seeking the city’s luxurious lifestyle and business opportunities.

Other delayed routes in the top 20 departing from Birmingham Airport included Loganair’s flight to Aberdeen.

However the Birmingham to Dubai flights are not the ones facing the most delays in the UK - despite the 30 minute delays. According to the Delay to Departure Report, the most delayed route was Ryanair's service to Lawica in Poland from Leeds Bradford Airport with an average delay of 36min.

Air India's London Heathrow to Delhi was named as the earliest arrival route, where passengers were touching down in India on average 35 minutes early.

Chris Gorman, head of professional services at Esendex said: “A delayed flight can cause a lot of anxiety, adding to an already stressful situation for many of us. Whether that’s impacting further travel plans once landed, or causing issues with accommodation, flight delays can cause havoc to travel itineraries.

“It’s vital that airlines have the right digital infrastructure in place to ensure passengers are kept up to date, with the correct information and crucially, to allow passengers to stay in contact with airlines as a solution is being sought.”
