Birmingham’s most famous Rock and Roll singer was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame recently.
Ozzy had already been inducted into the hall of fame as a member of Black Sabbath but now has a second entry acknowledging his solo career.
Ozzy and Sabbath are two of many West Midlands enteries into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. A number of bands and musicians from Birmingham and the wider region are inductees.
We’ve decided to take a look at all of the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame inductees from the West Midlands region.
1. Ozzy Osbourne: as a member of Black Sabbath (2006) and a solo artist (2024)
The Prince of Darkness has been inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame twice. Once as part of Black Sabbath and also this year as a solo artist. Sabbath were inducted into the hall of fame by Metallica in 2006. Ozzy is quite probably Birmingham's most famous rock star, selling over 100 million albums worldwide
2. Black Sabbath: Tony Iommi
Tony Iommi co-founded the pioneering heavy metal band and was the band's guitarist, leader, primary composer, and sole continuous member for over five decades. He is resposible for the iconic riffs of 'Paranoid. and 'War Pigs'. He was inducted into the hall of fame as part of Sabbath in 2006. Iommi was ranked number 13 on Rolling Stone's 2023 list of the “250 Greatest Guitarists of all Time
3. Black Sabbath: Bill Ward
Sabbath drummer Bill Ward helped found the band in 1968. Born in Birmingham, Ward was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame as part of the band
4. Black Sabbath: Geezer Butler
Geezer was also inducted into the hall of fame in 2006 as part of Sabbath. He has been called a 'pioneer and Godfather of bass guitar'.
